It’s been 20 years since we began accepting students as part of our family on our farm stays. The hosts have been engaging and interacting with students through Kagoshima’s nature and culture, house chores and/or simply in sharing their daily lives. Even just a day or two with a warm welcoming Kagoshima host family becomes an opportunity for the students to create precious memories and have a unique life experience with a chance to connect in a meaningful way with the host (many of the students have shed a tear or two at the end of their stay).
As for the host families, they find the stays quite enjoyable and gain enormously from their interaction with the students. They are very excited to see who is coming next and are eager to cook dishes filled with Kagoshima’s traditions. These moments allows great connections to be established with the hosts community.
Unfortunately, the farm stay program is currently facing difficulties due to a general depopulation of regions hosting farm stays and because of the repercussions of COVID-19. We ask the locals for their contribution toward farm stays and in helping develop the village.
